    As we conclude Mental Health Awareness Month, I want to take the opportunity to highlight what mental health is and the importance it plays into our everyday lives. According to Workplace Mental Health Promotion, mental health “is a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully and is able to make a contribution to his or her community”. Increasing one’s mental health should be just as important as other activities of daily living but sometimes we let it fall to the wayside.
In the previously posted article, we outlined ways in which you can reduce stress in your everyday life. How can we push this to the forefront of importance? I can personally attest that when I do not take care of my mental health, other areas of my life seem to decline. I believe the answer lies in focusing on mental health to be a priority, the new normal, for everyday life.
Please help celebrate Mental Health Awareness Month by participating in something to increase your mental health. Maybe try one of our suggestions from the previous article and let us know how it goes in the comments section. Say it out loud “today I will… (Insert idea here) to increase my mental health!”.
