Garcia
It all started long ago….before I was born. Well actually it all started when I was born. Then fast forward to today and I am a Recreational Therapist aka Rec Therapist or RT. I want to tell you a bit about me so you can understand who I am and where I come from. I am a someone who loves playing sports. My favorite are volleyball, football, and boxing. I think I was in boxing longer than any other sport. However, I had to slow down with sports and so I began pursuing other interests and as I rec therapist I decided to do a little rec therapy on myself. I discovered my old love for art, traveling and socializing with friends. All these I am still continuing to try to do. Anyways I love to try new things at least once and maybe a few times. I am also a firm believer of living life through experiences which is why I have decide to travel so much in the past few years. I have been all over Europe and through some places in the USA, Canada, and Mexico. In some posts I will highlight my wild and wacky adventures. I want to share some of my experiences and learn more about the profession. I want to get the RT name out to the public which is why I am here providing my story to you. Anyways, hope you enjoy reading our blog, listening to our podcast and overall interacting with us. Hope you enjoy your visit here at Rec, Play, Live.

Pisciotta
Hello! my name is Angela Pisciotta and I am a Recreation Therapist in California. I grew up in the Midwest and moved to California for college. I received my undergraduate degree in speech pathology and audiology and fell into the profession of Recreation Therapy at my undergraduate commencement ceremony (check out the podcast for more details J). Before fully committing to pursuing my education in recreation therapy, I practiced as a speech pathology assistant for several years and worked with children with disabilities. I finally decided that I wanted to take the plunge and advance my education so I completed my graduate education in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Administration at the same time as the Recreation Therapy courses and internship.
I completed my internship in a center for dually diagnosed adults and was able to experience so many wonderful things regarding recreation therapy. Most of the facilitators were certified Recreation Therapists and had diverse backgrounds. One of my favorite parts of the internship was being able to work with a service dog and see the direct benefits the clients we served obtained.
I currently work for a psychiatric hospital within a correctional facility in an intermediate level of care program. My job involves providing Recreation Therapy services in hopes of assisting the Patient with positive coping skills for various symptoms related to mental illness. Some of the specific topics I work on are social skills, appropriate competition, and exploring creative processes to remediate symptoms.
In my personal life, I enjoy spending my time with my family and our dogs. We love to be outdoors and explore the beautiful natural resources we have in California. Traveling is always on our to-do list and we have many dreams and goals we wish to achieve.
Thank you for reading and I hope to learn more about Recreation Therapy and how to be a better therapist through our website and podcast!
